Rivers of Life

There’s an alluring charm about rivers in Borneo. Each carries an enthralling tale or two of its own. There are some 5,000 kilometres of water ways in Sarawak alone and they carry even more stories. Some are happy ones, others tragic. But many are simply yarns spun plainly for amusement. It is, however, in the telling of these cerita sungai or river tales that their collective memory is carried forward to the next generation. And the next. Some of these stories are intricately woven into a fine tapestry like the pua kumbuinto one big story that is Sarawak.
