Democratic Governance
Locally, UNDP supports efforts to improve local capacity to deliver basic services, especially to women and the poor - and to ensure their voices are included in political decision-making. UNDP is the lead agency on democratic governance in the UN system. One third of our total resources go to democratic governance projects, programmes and initiatives each year, which promote advocacy, capacity development, policy advice and technical support, partnerships, and sharing of experiences and good practices.
Our Goals
Democratic governance is essential to achieving the Millennium Development Goals. We aim to build effective and capable states that are accountable and transparent, inclusive and responsive — from elections to participation of women and the poor.more
