Support UNDP's Ebola Response!

Nov 28, 2014

With $50 UNDP provides an Ebola-affected family of five with a month's worth of essential supplies.

Kuala Lumpur, November 28, 2014 ~ The Ebola outbreak in West Africa has so far claimed over 5,000 lives in the three most affected countries of Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone. While the death and suffering caused by Ebola is immediate and must be stopped, the socio-economic impact of the disease will last long after Ebola has been brought under control. The epidemic is affecting millions of the poorest and most vulnerable people.

UNDP is at the forefront of the urgent fight to contain the disease and protect peace and development gains. UNDP is leading on early recovery efforts, and supporting nationally-led efforts to address the crisis.

UNDP has realigned its programmes and budgets in Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone to better fight the disease and mitigate its impact. Accordingly, UNDP is focusing on two areas: support efforts to stop the epidemic; and ensure that affected countries, communities and individuals can recover quickly and sustainably.

Michelle Gyles-McDonnough, United Nations Development Programme Resident Representative for Malaysia said, “To bolster our efforts, we need everyone’s support. It is for this reason that UNDP has initiated a fundraising campaign around the world for our response to the Ebola crisis in West Africa. With USD50, UNDP provides an Ebola-affected family of five with a month's worth of essential supplies.

We have produced a “call to action” animation explaining UNDP’s recovery efforts and how anyone across the globe can get involved.  The video can be viewed at UNDP Malaysia’s YouTube channel: undpmalaysia. We are also launching our mobile fundraising platform that will make the donation process very easy. By texting “UNDP" to 41444 from a smartphone, users can easily contribute an amount of their choosing. “

As part of UNDP global’s #GivingTuesday activities, UNDP will raise awareness and funds towards the fight against the Ebola Virus Disease. Let's all join together this #GivingTuesday in support of people fighting the Ebola crisis!

Visit the UNDP global site at undp.org or the Malaysia site at my.undp.org for more details on how to donate and be part of the fund raising.
