Call for Concept Proposals: Orang Asli/Orang Asal Micro-Grant Facility (OA MGF) for Conservation and Livelihood

UNDP Malaysia is seeking qualified organisations to submit a Concept Proposal for the Orang Asli/Orang Asal Micro-Grant Facility for Conservation and Livelihood. The OA MGF for Conservation and Livelihood is to manage and protect the environment in orang asli/orang asal (OA) communities and support sustainable livelihoods. Implemented by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the project began in September 2019 and will be completed by December 2021.

During the Budget 2019, the Ministry of Finance announced, under the section on “Environment and Energy for the Future”, Item 200, that RM 5 million was allocated for micro-grants to implement programmes with the cooperation from United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) to manage and protect the environment in OA communities.

UNDP is announcing its second call for concept proposals to be completed by 3 January 2020. OA MGF is seeking qualified organizations to submit Concept Proposals that meet project selection criteria as detailed below.

CRITERIA

A. Eligible Organisation

Locally registered:

  • Non-Governmental organisation
  • Community-based organisations
  • Civil society organisations
  • Social enterprises
  • Research institutions
  1. OA MGF grants are only applicable for the above-mentioned organisations.
  2. Applicants must provide a copy of certificate of registration with the application. Applicants who fail to provide a copy of certificate of registration will not be considered for full proposal development.
  3. Organisations must have a locally registered bank account.
  4. Organisations must have strong organisational capacity to implement OA MGF grant projects and meet the requirements.

B. Eligible Project Activities

May address one or a combination of the following OA MGF thematic areas:

  • Food Security
  • Rural Electrification
  • Clean Water
  • Climate Change
  • Entrepreneurship
  • Access and Benefit Sharing/Traditional Knowledge
  • Biodiversity
  • Land Degradation
  1. All project proposals must explain and demonstrate how the project’s objectives and activities have an impact on the eight thematic areas.
  2. Projects must demonstrate strong community involvement as well as focus on environmental issues and livelihood improvement.

C. Funding:

  • Above USD $50,000 and not exceeding USD $55,000 (equivalent in Ringgit Malaysia). Grants will be awarded in Ringgit Malaysia.

D. Project Duration

  • The duration of each grant project may vary from six to 15 months. Project activity completion must be no later than 30 June 2021.

E. Deadlines:

  • 3 January 2020, 5:00 p.m.

Concept Proposal Submission

  • 17 Jan 2020, 5:00 p.m.

Project Proposal Submission (only for those whose Concept Proposals were shortlisted and selected)

 

Applications must be submitted using OA MGF templates. All applications using other templates will not be considered.

Only shortlisted candidates will be notified and invited to further develop their Concept Proposal into a full Project Proposal.
